Returns & Refunds Policy
Last updated: 27 Mar 2026
At Hand Drawn Art, we help talented artists turn their hand-drawn illustrations into beautiful, high-quality printed and bound books for you to enjoy, read, or colour. Every book is custom-made to order, which means we start production as soon as we receive and approve the files.
Please read this policy before placing your order. By ordering from us, you agree to these terms.
1. Made-to-Order Books
Because each book is produced specifically from the artist’s original artwork and your chosen specifications (size, paper, binding, etc.), we cannot accept returns simply because you have changed your mind.
Under UK law, the 14-day cooling-off period that applies to many online purchases does not apply to personalised or made-to-order goods like our books.
2. When We Accept Returns or Offer Refunds
We are committed to delivering high-quality books and want you to love your purchase. We will accept returns or provide refunds/replacements only in these cases:
- The book has a manufacturing defect (e.g., pages misprinted, binding falling apart, or major print quality issues clearly caused by our production process — not by the original artwork files).
- The book is damaged in transit by the delivery carrier.
- You received the wrong item or incorrect quantity.
We do not accept returns for:
- Change of mind
- Disappointment with the artwork or story (these are the artist’s creative work)
- Issues caused by the artist’s original files (low resolution, colour variations between screen and print, etc.)
- Normal minor printing variations (slight colour shifts are common in professional printing and not considered defects)
- Damage that occurs after you receive the book
3. Timeframes for Reporting a Problem
Contact us within 14 days of receiving your order if you believe there is a manufacturing defect, transit damage, or error with your order.
The sooner you report an issue, the easier it is for us to help — ideally within a few days of delivery.
4. How to Request a Return or Refund
- Go to the Contact page on our website and provide:
- Your order number
- Clear photos showing the issue (including packaging if it looks like transit damage)
- A short description of the problem
- We will review your request quickly (usually within 1–2 working days) and let you know if it qualifies.
- Do not return the book until we have approved it and given you return instructions.
5. What Happens If Your Claim Is Approved
- Our fault or manufacturing defect: We will reprint and send you a replacement at no extra cost, or issue a full refund if a replacement isn’t possible.
- Damage in transit: We will liaise with the reputable delivery company and arrange a replacement or refund.
- Refunds: Issued to your original payment method (via PayPal or Stripe) within 5–10 working days of us receiving and inspecting the returned book (where a return is required).
- We aim to resolve valid issues fairly and promptly so you can enjoy your new book.
6. Return Shipping Costs
- If the problem is our fault or due to transit damage, we will provide a prepaid return label where practical or reimburse reasonable return postage costs (with proof of payment).
- For international orders, return shipping can be expensive — please consider this when ordering.
- If we do not approve the return, you are responsible for any shipping costs, and we may refuse to accept the parcel.
7. Condition of Returned Books
Returned books must be in the condition received (unused where possible, in original packaging). We reserve the right to refuse a return if the book has been heavily used or further damaged after delivery.
8. International Orders
We ship worldwide using reputable delivery companies. However:
- You are responsible for any import duties, taxes, or customs fees — these are non-refundable.
- We are not liable for customs delays or issues.
- High return shipping costs from outside the UK are your responsibility unless the issue is our fault.
9. Cancellations Before Production Starts
You may be able to cancel your order before production begins (a short window is usually shown at checkout). Once printing or binding starts, cancellation is no longer possible.
10. Your Statutory Rights
Nothing in this policy affects your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. All goods must be of satisfactory quality, as described, and fit for purpose. If a book is faulty, you have strong rights to a repair, replacement, or refund.
For more information on your rights, visit the official guidance on gov.uk.
11. Contact Us
If you have any questions about your order or need help with an issue, please use the Contact page on the website. Our UK-based team is here to support you and will respond as quickly as we can.
